Starting Tuesday, Oct. 20, Marion Street between Bryan and Hobbs streets will be closed indefinitely for City Hall work.
Marion Street by the Courthouse also is closed this week, Oct. 19-24, for the Athens Storytelling Festival.
Hobbs Street by City Hall will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 20, for drainage work.
Public Works Director James Rich reported tonight at City Council that the south side of Washington St islands are done. The north side at Washington and Marion should be done by next week in time for Storytelling. Still running electrical conduit. The last island to be done will be at Washington and Jefferson.
Update from Public Works:
"We are running slightly ahead of where we anticipated we'd be. The interior side of the Square will take about a month more to finish out.
Additionally, we do not anticipate that this will alter parade routes. There may still be some sidewalk work going on during the earlier parades, but we do not anticipate having any streets closed as it relates to this project."
